Hans Eijkelboom

Updated: Apr 26, 2022

Hans Eijkelboom is a English photographer. He was first recognised When he joined the group of Dutch photographers which spread the idea of conceptual photography. Here he was able to begin creating i hard which were simple yet clearly portrayed what he wanted them too.

The series I am studying today is called ‘10Euro outfit series’ in this series Hans Eijkelboom brought outfits which costed €10 or under. This series took place between august 2005 and June 2006. He started with creating 1 outfit a week however as it came to the end of the series it became 1 outfit every 2 weeks. There ended up being a total of 32 outfits. This was then created into a book which had 32 pages.

I chose this photographer as I really like the simplicity of the images as it is makes the audience focus on the outfit itself instead of other factors such as other people in the images or different poses etc. Which may distract you. It is also the exact same layout on each page. The photograph is the same style and size and there is always a graph at the bottom which says how much it each item he brought costed.

Not only that but I like how there is no correlation between the style of the background images except they are very normal spots which won’t steal the attention from the outfit.

Im my work I would like to recreate this style by getting my model to look straight at the camera as well as add a section at the bottom which explains what each item is and how much it cost.

Here are my favourite results-
