Evolution of onion inspired skirt.

I knew when designing this garment I wanted to have different layers which would look like a onion as well as it would have lots of volume to give the shape of a onion as well.

This was my first twile which I made .

front-

back-

I was really unhappy with the result of this outcome as It did not look like what I wanted at all; the layers have gaps in between which I could fix by making the panels wider or add more layers which overlap. Another idea I had was to add another skirt underneath.

My original design was to have a invisible zip in the center of the point of my yoke. I was really strugling with how to insert this zip into this particular section while not splitting the panel underneath.

I Decided to fix both of these issues by splitting the skirt into two section. The bottom is a pencil skirt which will be quilted with a lapped zip at the back and a straight waistband. Ontop of that there will be a band. This band contains the pointed, asymmetrical bagged out yoke With the padded layers caught inside and fastened using a button and button hole. The layers will contain wadding instead of stuffing so that they still keep their shape.

I also wanted this skirt to reflect my client, Liberty London better. When doing my research into their styles of skirts I found many of them included a drawstring waist. I decided to add this feature ontop of my faced yoke for aesthetic purposes. It also reflects my image of my onion well as it gives the appearance of roots like seen in my primary image.

This is my final twile.
