creating shape

In pattern cutting i have been focusing on how i can recreate the shapes in my architecture images from around college. This is one of my favourite experiments.
i started by getting a skirt block. i then cut the front and back of this to 40cm then halved this to two 20cm stripes. i then cut a equal amount of lines from the centre of the 20cm panel joins all the way to 1cm from the edge. i then opened each cut to 2cm and Sellotaped this to another piece of pattern paper underneath.
Here is what it looked like when it was pinned onto a mannequin.

I then mad this out of fabric, however i was intrigued by the difference interfacing can have on the shape created.
The right side of these photos contains a very heavyweight interfacing and the left is only the fabric

It is very obvious the side with the interfacing has a much mode defined and lifted shape. I am defiantly going to use heavyweight interfacing to explore other shapes i could create.
Next time i am going to experiment this same design with different types of fabrics and materials.
