Creating a production line.

During Lareens lesson on the week of the 19th November, the class came together to replicate a production line in the industry.

Lareen uploaded a video on how to create a specific model of bag which will be donated to the local food bank.

Once we all watched the video we divided ourselves into what we are confident/ good at doing.

I was designated to do some of the french seams. To do these I sewed 0.7cm (bad sides together) then I passed this bag to Poppy who was in quality control to cut the exes seam allowance. She then passed this to Doug who turned the bag inside out, pressed the seams and padded it back where I completed this seam.

The issue we found with this was that each of us were waiting for the other to finish their job. Next time this could be fixed by having a continuous supply so That we are all working on a bag each at one time. another way this could be fixed is to have one person which passes their bag onto quality control and ironing. This page would then get passed onto another sewer to sew the other part of the french seam.

By completing this task I was able to see how the organisation inside a workplace speeds up the production of the product dramatically.

Overall as a class we were able to produce around 6 finished bags in the time given.
