Blind hem

As part of making our pencil skirt we had to add a blind hem to the bottom. I had never done one of these before so I was fascinated by the process.

this is a blind hem foot. by folding up the bottom of the garment up by 3 cm then folding it back down however pulling it extra so the the seam neatened edge is revealed. place this under the foot with the rolled edge up against the bar. Now go onto the blind hem stitch (this is also the stitch used for seam neatening) and turn it to the longest stitch length.

when sewing the sig zag that goes to the left catches the weave of the

fabric and makes a tac.

this is what the stitch looks like from inside the skirt.

this is what the skirt looks like from the front.

(on a real garment the thread will match the colour of the fabric, I have only used this bold colour as a example.
